Martha Washington
The reverse design of the Martha Washington gold coin
depicts her sewing a button onto her husband’s jacket. During the revolutionary war, Martha
organized sick wards and convinced the women of Morristown to make bandages from their
napkins and tablecloths. She also had them repair uniforms and even knit shirts
for the ill-equipped Continental soldiers. She set an example among the
soldier’s wives and helped lift the morale of her husband's exhausted troops.
